"Challenge" 30’ x 8’ x 8’, Bronze painted steel. Duration of the time: Four months. Completed in June 1992. Commissioned by the Chairman of Jain Group of Industries to be installed at Jalgaon in Maharashtra State, India. Structural and civil design and fabrication in charge: Sculptor Sudhir Deshpande. The sculpture ‘ Challenge’ is portrait sculpture of the founder of Jain Groups, Mr. Bhavarlal Jain. As do not believe in statue of the person as it is the replica of the person of that particular time and does not express the characteristics of nature of the person, I created the portrait sculpture of him. The person started his career from selling the kerosene on the road in his young age and he is the owner of US$ 400 millions today. This is the great success that he achieved in one generation. He accepted the challenge of life and now he is employer and responsible for more than 6000 families. He has become so great that he could not only touch the sky but could hold the SUN in his hands and ‘SUN’ is happy also. The location for the sculpture is on the hill, which is top most area available in the district that is in possession of the industry. Because of height there is always strong wind that makes impossible to stand human beings, somtime. Considering the site requirement I designed the sculpture that looks massive but there is space to pass the wind force. Everybody, except the chairman and me, was sure that the sculpture would not be able to stand there even for a day or two. But, It is still standing since the date of installation and has become the pride property of the industry.

"Life" 25’ tall x 12’ x 12’, Painted steel with Brass bails and stainless steel pipes with revolving elements that creates music. Duration of time: - four months. Completed in Dec’1999. Commissioned by ‘Reliance Industries Limited’ for the location of ‘Central Park’ in the resident colony at Jamnagar, Gujrath, India. Art consultant was Mr. Kishore Pradhan, Landscape Architect, Mumbai, India. Structural Design, civil design and fabrication in charge: - Sculptor Sudhir Deshpande. Location of the sculpture is the Central Park, which is located in the center of the resident colony of the employees of Reliance Industries at Jamnagar, in Gujrath State of India. The Central Park is beautifully designed and landscaped and there is a temple also in the same premises. The problem was the wind pressure. I decided to use the power of wind and designed revolving, colorful, beautiful and musical life. The Director of the organization and the architects wanted the joyful and happy sculpture and I fulfilled their exception by creating ‘Life’. The center white pillar shows stability with peace and the top revolving elements are the form of paper toy, which every child plays and enjoy the fun of revolving and changing color. Hear in the sculpture, same revolving elements from both the sides that create music with the stainless pipes, which are specifically tuned like the brass bells. There are four lotus leaves, which is a symbol of prosperity and delicacy. They are standing at four directions to guard the life. Top elements of these leaves, which are on different level revolves only when there is a strong wind and creates the music with the bell. Because of the sounding of the bells, the creation of holly atmosphere is maintained. |

"Perfect Balance" 27’ x 15’ x 3’. Bronze painted steel. Duration of the time: - six months. Completed in 1984. Commissioned by the Chairman & Managing Director of ‘ Bajaj Auto Limited’ for the location at two and three wheeler manufacturing project at Aurangabad in Maharashtra State, India. Structural design and fabrication in charge: sculptor Sudhir Deshpande and fabrication work done by the workers of the industry to increase the test of art among them, under supervision of sculptor. Exact location of the sculpture to be installed was recommended by sculptor after finalization of concept and the rough sketch. The subject was which was in the mind of Chairman was expected because, recently they had a lock out of nine months in the industry. The subject was ‘relation between owners/ management and labors.’ On this expectation my statement is: - “There should be perfect balance between management and labors with lawful relations for the growth of an industry.” And the same is sculpted in metal. Because of the need of the subject I insisted to install the sculpture between the main administration building and canteen, from where everybody has to pass on.
