Commission an Artist is proud to represent Karen Blenkinsop. Karen is an exceptional artist using fine liners and pen.

Born and brought up in Sunderland and a proud Wearsider, Karen is a Graphic Design graduate who has spent several years working for various companies throughout the North East, latterly as a freelance artist and proofreader. The way she approaches a piece of artwork is definitely influenced by this background in the graphics industry.

The subjects which interest Karen all tend to be quite sculptural in their own right with clean, strong lines as this suits her style. For the drawings, she usually works from still life (Fossil) or photographic references as in the Black Cat which is one of her own images and who lives in Amsterdam Zoo. All the drawings are pencil work on watercolour paper. The lettering pieces, however, are made in a different way with the early drafts being worked out on computer before being transferred to paper or board and hand finished in ink and paint.

At the moment she is working on new pieces which hopefully will help establish her further.
